Hale of a Mavs Game and more.....

Saturday night the entire Hale family went to the mavs game. With us it's always an adventure, and we were able to check off our 2014 family picture from our to do list.

Kevin finishes his first round of "5 day chemo a month" tonight. He has done great and only felt a little sick during this round. Next month they will increase the dosage another 100 mg, so we are praying he tolerates that one well too. It goes by quickly, so that's a bonus too. But other than that he's doing really good and enjoying a normal life again.

Other than the Mavs game, this weekend was pretty much full of movies, laying on the couch and naps. Kevin gets so irritated at me and my closet. It's amazing how fast it can go from organized to crazy. So Sunday morning he helped me do a little spring cleaning. I've promised to keep it clean for a while, will see how long that lasts.

We're thankful for a happy and relaxing weekend, bring it Monday.

What the weekend is for......

I love weekends, along with everyone else. Their our time to rest and pack as many fun things in before Monday. Lately we've made a shopping trip to central market in Dallas a weekend ritual. Since Kevin's diagnosis we've done our best to clean up our diet and have been eating pretty much all organic and no processed foods. We do have the occasional cheats but for the most part it's a healthy around our house.

I love our trips to central market. We usually find somewhere fun to do brunch or lunch along the way. Yesterday we stopped at Whiskey Cake. It was so good, and we were so miserably full the rest of the day.

And sometimes I can even convince Kevin to stop by Northpark. He'd be lying if he said he wasn't a fan of Northpark. He always walks away with something fun too. A couple of weeks ago we got Kevin a new safety razor and Jack Black shaving kit. He's addicted now. And I'm not gonna lie, I love their lotion too. Kevin keeps reminding me it's men's lotion, but it doesn't stop me from using it.

This weekend also consisted of lounging on the couch, which is one of my favorite pastimes. It was cool enough to turn our fireplace on Saturday night. Sometimes you need a night at home with a fire and a movie. Today we got to have lunch with one of my besties and her sweet boyfriend. I'm so thankful for all the friendships I made in college (especially my Alpha Phi sisters) but I'm especially thankful for this friend. She is always there when I need someone to talk to, vent to or just need cheering up. She always will tell me the truth. It's hard to believe we've been friends for 14 years.

This next week is a pretty quiet on for us. Kevin has a follow up appointment with the radiologist on Thursday and he starts his first round of 5 day oral chemo Wednesday. Thank you for the continued prayers. Kevin's feeling so good, we are truly blessed.

A couple, a couple of years later......

It's been a while since I've blogged. Lots of things have happened during that time, good, bad, happy and sad. Since Kevin was diagnosed with his brain tumors in November I've been debating on starting the blog again. The blog was a great outlet for me while going through ivf. It was a place I could share what we were going through week by week but it also let people deep into our daily lives.

I'll admit it. I'm a blog addict, reading others blogs has been a stress relieving outlet for me. So after much debate and prayer I'm starting to blog our journey again.

Update on Kevin, in November of 2013, the Monday before thanksgiving we took Kevin to the ER for a massive headache he kept having. The next week we were told it was primary brain cancer and that he had to have surgery to remove the front tumor. He had the top surgeon in Dallas remove the front tumor with success. We then started oral chemotherapy along with radiation daily at Baylor Dallas. We were so happy once that part of our journey was complete and had a month off. A month with no daily drives to Dallas, no blood work or doctors visits. Life was a little more normal and Kevin went back to work after three months of not working.

Today Kevin had his follow up MRI to see how that first round of treatment went. The oncologist was very pleased with the success of both the chemo and radiation. The back tumor reduced in size and there was no sign if regrowth in the front. He will start his maintenance chemo next week, which is 5 pills per month at a higher dose. Chemo at home is such a blessing. He takes it 30 mins before bed and it shouldn't make him sick. We've seen so many blessings through this journey. We're looking at brain cancer as a blip or bump in the road. We've got lots of happy times ahead and Kevin's fighting like Hale!

Speaking of fighting like Hale, if you'd like a fight like hale bracelet let me know. You can email me at Kati.hale@yahoo.com and I'd be happy to send you one.
