Five on Friday

I love Fridays. This week has gone by incredibly fast {no complaining here}. Kevin finishes his 5th day of chemo and he's felt really good this round. So thankful that his meds don't make him sick.

Here is what I know this week.......

1. 53 million scraps of material and straight pins later I finished my wreath for the Fourth. I will never make another wreath like this again. It was not fun, not even a little. But at least it turned out cute.

2. My new running shoes are amazing and have saved my feet {and toenails}. Love me some Brooks {and hot pink}

3. I love getting fresh veggies from my father in laws garden. And I love squash {I might have had an imaginary friend as a child named squash}

4. Kevin has been trying flies all week while he's been off work taking his meds. He's the cutest fisherman on earth and I could watch him tie flies all day {he might kill me if he knew I blogged this picture} those glasses are the real deal {light and all}

5. I'm super excited for an upcoming trip to Napa with friends to celebrate one of my besties bachelorette weekend. And another trip to Beavers Bend in October for Kevin's birthday. I love having a vacation to look forward to. Trips to my heart good.

Happy Friday and weekend friends! Also if you haven't tried one of the new green tea's from Starbucks, you should. I'm obsessed with the new Peach Green Tea Lemonade.

Road Trippin'

After a crazy, emotional and stressful 8 months Kevin and I were ready for a getaway. And it was amazing.

We left Denton in the pouring rain and headed north. Being a huge Miranda Lambert fan, Kevin let me swing by Tishmingo and check out her Pink Pistol Store. I loved it and spent way too much but got a couple cute shirts and funzies.

After our little stop, we then headed east to Broken Bow. We rented a little cabin in Hochatown, which is a couple miles out side of Beavers Bend State Park.

It was an adorable one bedroom with the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in {but really}.

The cabin had wifi, satellite tv, indoor and outdoor fire place, hot tub and a jacuzzi.

It was everything we needed and more. If you are thinking about renting a cabin in that area I highly recommend Hidden Hills Cabins in Broken Bow. This is the third time we've stayed in one of their cabins, and they are by far the BEST. {check them out: Hidden Hills Cabins }

But we couldn't just stay at the cabin, we had some trout to catch {maybe I didn't, but Kevin did}.

Lower Mountain Fork is the river which runs through the park. They stock the trout every three weeks which draws lots of fishermen to the park, especially in the summer.

The river is beautiful and we've walked most of it over the last three years we've been going but we always find a few new places.

The water is freezing, in places rapid and very rocky. Kevin got me special wadding shoes last year and I'm always happy I have them, even though they are butt ugly. They keep me for busting my booty. {which is pretty magical}

Kevin caught a couple trout, it was tough since we were at the end of the stocking schedule but he knew a couple secret spots.

We ate dinner at our favorite place there, the Grateful Head. Their pizza is some of the best pizza I've ever had. {and yes we cheated on the healthy eating, what's vacation without a little pizza}

We had homemade fudge from the sweetest little lady. We visit here each time we go.

{she had red velvet and dark chocolate salted caramel, it was like she was calling me}

We visited the museum, since it's a free state park we always come and donate a few dollars to keep up the park. Kevin always runs into people he's met fishing on the river.  He never meets a stranger.

We fished some more, took a couple naps, relaxed in the hot tub and before I knew it our trip was over. Kevin's already asking if we can go back for his birthday. I'm thinking that's a great birthday present.

On the way home we stopped in Paris {Texas that is} and had a late lunch.

It's hard coming back to reality after such a fun trip. I love taking short trips like this throughout the year instead of one long trip. Having a trip to look forward to always makes me smile.

And this guy, he makes me smile too.

I also came home to this adorable card. My sweet friend Jenna is getting married in February and I can't wait to be a bridesmaid.

She is one of the sweetest, smartest and most beautiful lady I know. Dustin is one lucky guy.

Happy Sunday {and Fathers Day}. Have a blessed week!

Vacation prep

Back in the beginning of April, Kevin asked me what I wanted for my birthday, and I told him a pink FitBit Flex. So he ordered it, and then got an email 30 seconds later that it was on back order for 8 weeks. It finally came in this past week, and I love it.

My favorite feature is the sleep tracker. I always knew I was a restless sleeper {as did Kevin} but now I can actually track the amount of restless sleep per night.

It's also become a contest to see how many steps I can get in per day. If you've ever thought about getting one, do it.

Other than just playing with my Fitbit this weekend, we ran a couple errand prepping for our trip to Beavers Bend this next week.

There is a Fly Shop in Dallas that just happens to be in Preston Center, so I took advantage of that and we had lunch at R+D. Kevin allowed himself one sugary treat this weekend, so since we were in the area you can only imagine where we ended up.

Red Velvet on Red Velvet. It was so good, but way too sweet. And then we walked off the sugar in the Texas heat.

Kevin has been working on sanding his boat trailer down this past week and needed to paint it with Rhino liner this weekend. While he prepped the trailer I ran over to my parents house for a couple hour in the sun.

My pasty skin got a little color and the water felt so good.

Sunday we had made plans and Kevin had asked me to help him finish his trailer afterwards, so I didn't get a chance to meet up for a long run at White Rock.

I've been working on my time this week and my feet have been killing me. I had a pair of Brooks but I hated them, so I always wear my Nike Frees to run. They just weren't cutting it. I thought my toenails were gonna fall off, never a good sign. So, Kevin and I went to RunOn and got me a new pair of Brooks. They felt amazing just jogging around the store, I can't wait to break them in this week.

I plan on running a couple miles in the morning on our trip while Kevin fishes too. The scenery there can be breath taking in the morning {cheesy, but true}.

Let's get this short work week started, this girl is ready for vacay!

Starting the month off right......

Kevin finished another round of chemo at home this weekend. He did great this round and only had a little bit of nausea. He hates spending the weekend at home, especially when he could be fishing on the lake or playing golf. He reminded me of this on Saturday when the weather was perfect for fishing. So we rented every movie I could think of to keep him occupied.

He also loves healthy eating with some carbs while he's on chemo. Something about the carbs really sooths his stomach. He really wanted pizza so I made a healthier version.

I used Ezekiel English muffins, Boar's Head turkey pepperoni, a small portion of cheese and central market organic pasta sauce (by far this has the lowest amount of sugar that we've been able to find and it's so good).

The pizzas turned out great and were easy to clean up. I hate doing dishes on the {everyday} weekend. Who am I kidding Kevin does the dishes A LOT, he knows how much I hate doing them {and the laundry}. But that's part of marriage, we work together to get it done.

Since we were going to be home this weekend I wanted to take full advantage and make a new summer wreath.

I have a love affair with burlap and found hobby lobby was having a sale on Friday. The universe was sending me a message and I took that opportunity and bought more burlap than I needed {to add to my emergency stash}.

I copied a wreath I found on Pinterest and think it looks perfect with the new front door.

I also started a new wreath for 4th of July, but it involves pinning {thousands of tiny} scraps of material. So here's hoping I have it completed by July of 2015.

I also had an appointment with the optometrist this week. Turns out getting older + being on the computer all day = bad vision. If you have to get glasses, you might as well get cute glasses.

One of the reasons I started blogging in 2011 was to talk about our infertility journey. I followed a couple of infertility and weight loss bloggers, and I loved the community. Blogging is therapeutic for me. Even after our IVF was unsuccessful and I stopped blogging, I continued following bloggers that really inspired me.

Back in March I had the opportunity to meet one of my favorite bloggers, Megan. She is one of the sweetest and most genuine person I've ever met. She asked me if I was interested in meeting up at White Rock in Dallas for a run on Sunday. I've taken a couple months off from working out before and after my surgery but I thought this was the best way to get started. Just do it.

I run so slow. She is quick, and I had a hard time keeping up. It was a long 8 miles and I won't lie, I walked a lot. But I did it and I didn't die. I plan on running at home to build up my pace. Maybe next time we meet up I can keep up. I'm thankful for fitness bloggers like Megan that inspire people like me.

Burning a few calories wasn't bad either!

When I got home Kevin was just getting up. We had a late breakfast and spent the afternoon watching more movies and working on my new wreath. Kevin started making flies for our fly fishing trip in two weeks. It can't come soon enough. I'm a sucker for a good glamping trip with my man.

Happy weekend!
