Kevin and I hungout the night before at home getting ready for our early hospital arrival the next day. I was already super nervous, mainly about barfing on the table but also about the whole experience. Kevin knew how nervous I was and surprised me with my push present. He had been saving for months and bought me the most beautiful diamond birthstone ring for our Nellie and our anniversary. I cried. He's such a giver and provider for our entire family. It eased my nerves and I was able to sleep. Sort of.
The next morning we got up early and made our arrival at the hospital at 6:30 am. They had a few births that night so we were held for a couple mins before being taken back.
Our nurse came out to meet us and took us back to our room. She got us all geared up and started talking us through the process. The anesthesiologist came in to meet us and could tell I was nervous. He promised me he wouldn't let me throw up and he told me we were about to have a big birthday party. He asked my favorite music and said he would have it on pandora during the csection. He really made it a party and he had Miranda Lambert jamming in the OR the entire procedure.
They had me walk back to the OR and Kevin had to suit up and wait until I'd had my spinal. The first take at the spinal they missed and hit a nerve. Not pleasant at all. The nurse just hugged me and made everything so calm. I honestly think she was making sure I didn't move again. Once I was numb things started moving so fast. Kevin was next to me and they had Nellie out in 4 mins (our doctor joked and said she had to get back to the office). The anasiologist had our camera and took a ton of pictures. Some are a little much for the blog, you can see my guts. No one wants to see that, not even me. Kevin went with Nellie to get cleaned up and he brought her to me as soon as they were done. My arms were shaking so bad after surgery from the meds couldn't hold her until recovery. Kevin asked me if I was trying to fly away, but literally I couldn't hold them down. So Kevin and Nellie left as they were cleaning me up. The staff was beyond wonderful and made Nellie's birth an awesome experience. They prepared me with what to expect during recovery and loved on me until it was time for me to meet back up with Kevin. So thankful for such caring healthcare workers at Denton Texas Health.
During the surgery somehow a tool that wasn't even used was lost. {awesome, huh} My doctor told the staff to start digging for it in the trash and I could tell she was mad. But she told me not to worry and stayed calm. She said if they couldn't find it I was going to have to have an X-ray. Thank goodness they found it wrapped in the trash in just a few short mins.
Kevin and I got to spend a couple hours with Nellie in recovery and it was pure bliss. We then introduced her to the family. We still stare at her in disbelief that we get to raise her. Every day she changes and everyday we love her more.
